Activities based around nature and increasing biodiversity in our environment. Suitable from a very young age.

I have been collecting resources that we are going to use for our half term projects. Below is the plan, which is a mixture of outdoor and indoor activities:
1. Spring treasure hunt. This idea came from finding the activity at the following website: https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-families/family-wild-challenge/activities/signs-of-spring/ We will use it on our daily walk to the park where we feed the ducks. It will hopefully keep the lil' scientists entertained and curious about nature.
2. Building a mini wildlife pond. Children-friendly instructions can be found at the following website: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/actions/how-create-mini-pond Our pond is literally going to be a small second-hand steel bowl. Cannot wait to see the result and what kind of creatures will move into our pond over the next few months.
3. Decorating bird (and fairy) houses. I am saving this activity for colder or rainy days, but the kids cannot wait to paint them. We are then planning to hang them in the garden next to a bird feeder and watch if they get some tennants.
4. Catching the light. With this activity, we will use remnants of Christmas sweet wrappers to create colourful shadows. The plan is to attach them to a piece of cardboard where we will cut different shape holes and cover them with the wrappers to let the light through.
5. Pancake Day! That's the activity for Tuesday sorted. The kids will be involved in planning, preparing, measuring, cooking, and definitely eating.
6. Sowing and planting. In order to help the biodiversity in our front garden increase, we will be sowing some wildflowers.
7. Germinating. We already have an ongoing experiment - can you guess what plant is it supposed to be? We will be adding some more different seeds like sweetcorn, tomatoes, beans, peas and herbs...

I hope you find these tips useful and please share your photos on my Facebook and tag #blossomfield_tuition if they inspired you.
